Who are we…

After 14 years of competing at the front of karting claiming British, European & Vice-World Championship titles Guy Cunnington is now taking on a different role alongside his racing career with the same goal as ever. Taking all the knowledge & experience of his career to date Guy has founded GCR to be a world-level professional karting team with the target to win many more championships.

Guy founded the team in 2021 shortly after winning the Motorsport UK British Kart Championships in Senior ROTAX and the European Championships in IAME X30.

Marcus CUNNINGTON

Marcus has been involved in all things motorsport for many years including a successful racing career himself in Karting, Formula Ford, MotoX and Superkarts. He began working in the sport notably at Tyrrell Formula One Team before moving into the role of Number 1 / Lead Mechanic at BMW Motorsport & Williams for the 1998 and Le Mans winning 1999 LMP1 car. Following Le Mans Marcus moved to the Williams Racing Formula One Team and was responsible for the testing of gearboxes, fuel systems, radiators and driver seat fits.

Jon Daniels

Mechanic for Guy Cunnington & Philip Rawson

Jon Joined GCR in 2021 as a mechanic for Tyler Jex and since then has been with the team.

Jon has a huge passion for all things with an engine and previously had a successful karting career in TKM.

Alongside his role within GCR, Jon is currently studying at the Liverpool John Moores University for a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Matt Lacey

Mechanic for Ethan Critchley

Matt is a former kart driver and is now a very respected mechanic. He joined the team in 2024 as the mechanic of Ethan Critchley who is competing in the Motorsport UK British Kart Championship

Stuart Petts

Mechanic for Rachel Robertson

Stuart has been working alongside Guy for many years including his British Championship winning season in 2019.

Stuart also has a very impressive motorsport career from karting to working in Formula One with the Williams Racing, Mercedes AMG & Red Bull Racing Teams. Most recently Stuart has been working for Red Bull Powertrains.

Elliot Cunnington

Media & Sporting

Elliot is the founder of Traction Media who created the GCR brand and logo. Elliot has also been involved in karting for over a decade and has experience of working in several areas of the sport including a background of working for the governing body

MOTORSPORT UK SAFEGUARDING

Guy Cunnington Racing fully supports Motorsport UK’s Safeguarding team as they contiune their work to make the sport a safe place.

During 2023, Guy Cunnington Racing attended and completed the safeguarding training and the team manager had a suitability check completed which is to be kept updated within the last three years.
